From Oporto:
Take A4 up to Amarante. Thence, take the IP4 up to the first exit to Macedo de Cavaleiros. After having passed across this town, take EN216 up to Mogadouro (this is the worst part of the trip). Then take EN221, towards Miranda do Douro. Three kilometers beyond Sendim, turn right at the EN221-6 and you will find Picote three kilometers ahead.

From Lisbon:
Take A1 up to Coimbra. Then, take the IP3 up to Viseu. Thence, take IP5 up to Celorico da Beira, where you should take EN102 up to Pocinho. Here you should take EN220 towards Torre de Moncorvo. After the crossing with the road coming from Freixo de Espada à Cinta, take the route to Mogadouro. Then, follow the route described for those coming from Oporto.

From Bragança (via Alcañices):
Depending on the travelling time, there are two alternative routes from Bragança. Time-constrained travellers should take IP4 up to Quintanilha (once the road is finished) and cross the border with Spain towards Zamora. Right after Alcañices (where the treaty establishing the Portuguese-Spanish border was signed almost 700 years ago by the Kingdom of Castilla), you will find a road on your right towards Portugal. Just past Moveros, you should re-enter Portugal through Senhora da Luz Chapel. Turn left at the following cross-road towards Ifanes and Miranda do Douro. Take the EN221 towards Mogadouro. After about five kilometers, turn left towards Cércio, Vila Chã da Braciosa and finally Picote.

From Bragança (via Vimioso):
Relaxed - and more "patriotic" - travellers may take a different route. Departing from Bragança, take the EN218 towards Miranda do Douro. After the cross-road to Vimioso and Caçarelhos, turn right towards Vilar Seco. Thence, turn left towards Duas Igrejas. Then turn left at the crossing with the EN221 and 300m ahead turn right again towards Vila Chã da Braciosa and finally Picote.

From the South:
From the South of Portugal, take the IP2 (or rather, the various loose segments of IP2). Those coming from Algarve or Alentejo should take the various segments of IP2, via Beja, Évora, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Covilhã and Guarda. Thence, take the IP5 towards Viseu up to Celorico da Beira. Then take again the IP2 (EN102). Here, follow the route described for those coming from Lisbon.

From Zamora:
From Zamora, take Road N122 towards Portugal via Ricobayo Dam on Esla River (a major tributary to the Douro River). Then take the road to Miranda do Douro (Portugal). Miranda do Douro is just across the Miranda Dam. Thence, follow the route described for those coming from Bragança via Alcañices.

From Salamanca (via Miranda do Douro):
Those coming from Salamanca may follow two alternative roads. The shortest way is taking SA300 towards Ledesma. Thence, take SA311 up to Almeida and then ZA322 up to Bermillo. In Bermillo, take ZA321 and turn left at the crossing with ZA324 towards the Portuguese border via the Miranda dam. Here, follow the route for those coming from Zamora.

From Salamanca (via Bemposta):
The other choice for those who come From Salamanca is to take road C517 towards Vitigudino. At Villar de Peralonso, take the road to Ahigal de Villarino. Here, take road C525 to Fermoselle where you should follow the road to the Portuguese border via the Bemposta dam. Thence, take N221-7. At the crossing with N221, turn right towards Sendim / Miranda do Douro. Just past Sendim, turn right at the N221-6 towards Picote.
